Electronic Filing Reaches All-Time High

The IRS reported that 66 million tax returns were filed electronically as of April 22, 2005. This exceeds the 62 million e-filed tax returns filed for all of 2004. People preparing and filing their tax returns at home using tax prepararation software drove the largest growth in electronic filing. Also, the IRS reported a nearly 50% increase in the use of free e-file software. Source: IRS news release IR-2005-53.
