Facsimile Signatures on Employment Tax Returns Now Acceptable

Wednesday July 13, 2005
Companies can now file employment tax returns using facsimile signatures of corporate officers. The IRS announced the change will apply to Form 940, 941, 941c, and other payroll tax returns. The IRS will accept, for example, signatures printed by a software program. The new rules are outlined in Revenue Procedure 2005-39 and are published in Internal Revenue Bulletin 2005-28, pages 82-83 (PDF document).
