Software for the 2004 tax year is still available. As part of the IRS Free File Alliance, various tax software companies offer free versions of tax preparation software to customers who meet certain criteria. Free File and electronic filing of your tax return is available through October 17, 2005. After that, Free File and electronic filing will not be available for 2004 tax returns.
