Once a week we'll take a look at what other About.com Guides are saying about how to manage finances and plan for the future. This week I found these great tips from other guides:

  • TurboTax Tips
It's tax time again. Learn how to get the most out of TurboTax, a popular tax software program.
  • Save $30 on Quicken and TurboTax
Financial Software Guide Shelley Elmblad has details on how to save $30 on popular Quicken and TurboTax software from Intuit. But before you buy, make sure this software fits your needs: Review of TurboTax, and Review of Quicken. Also, you might be eligible to use TurboTax for free.
  • Tweak Your Income Tax Withholding
Financial Planning Guide Deborah Fowles explains how to adjust your tax withholding on your paycheck so you pay only the right amount of tax. People getting substantial tax refunds this year can adjust their withholding to get more money in their paycheck. You'll need to fill out a new Form W-4 and submit it to your payroll department.
  • How to Write a Tamper-Resistant Check
Banking Guide Justin Pritchard explains how to write a check that cannot be altered. For those writing checks to the IRS to pay their taxes, here's an extra tip. Make the check payable to "United States Treasury." Why? Scammers could easily alter a check made out to "IRS" by altering the acronym to "MRS." or "JR Smith" or something similar.
  • Could Your Tax Refund be Worth $250,000?
Retirement Planning Guides Jenny and Patrick McKinney show you how you can turn your tax refund into a retirement nest egg using tax-free Roth IRAs. Another refund tip: Mutual Fund Guide Dustin Woodard suggests that you Turn Your Tax Refund into a Mutual Fund, to let your refund money grow over time.
