Tax Deadline Extended to April 17th
Wednesday January 24, 2007
The Internal Revenue Service announced that the due date for all 2006 tax returns will be on April 17, 2007 -- a full two extra days to file our tax forms.
"Taxpayers will have extra time to file and pay because April 15 falls on a Sunday in 2007, and the following day, Monday, April 16, is Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in the District of Columbia."The new deadline applies to a wide range of tax activities. April 17th is now the last day for taxpayers:
- to file their 2003 tax returns and claim a refund,
- to file an automatic extension,
- to contribute money to their IRA for the 2006 tax year,
- to pay their 2006 taxes without penalty,
- to pay their first quarter 2007 estimated taxes, and of course
- to file their 2006 tax returns without an extension.
