Workshops for Non-Profit Organizations

Saturday October 27, 2007
Non-profit organizations can learn more about how to stay on top of their tax and reporting obligations at a series of one-day workshops offered by the Internal Revenue Service. I attended a similar workshop a few years ago and came away with more useful information and contacts than I expected. The workshops are especially good at covering what non-profits need to know to protect their tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This is the part of the tax law that determines which organizations are allowed to operate without paying income taxes. The workshops also cover the always confusing topic of unrelated business income, explain the basics of Form 990, and the new "e-postcard" filing requirement for very small non-profits. If there's going to be a workshop in your area, I would highly recommend the workshop to directors of non-profits and churches and to the tax accountants.
