Tax Credit for 2009 Diesel Cars
Saturday October 11, 2008
Five diesel-powered vehicles are eligible for the alternative motor vehicle tax credit. The IRS has made this tax credit available for diesel cars using advanced lean-burn technology. Already the IRS has certified several hybrid and electric vehicles for the credit. The newly certified diesel vehicles are:
- Mercedes GL 320 Bluetec: $1,800
- Mercedes ML 320 Bluetec: $900
- Mercedes R 320 Bluetec: $1,550
- Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI sedan: $1,300
- Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI SportWagen: $1,300

Dear sir. I recently purchased a VW Tuareg V6 diesel. I would like to know why yhis car is not included in the tax rebate. It is one of the cleanest diesels avaiable (et least as clean as the mercedes GL 320 bluetech) Maybe the governement is not aware of the diesel tuareg which is fairly new in Canada. Only 200 of them have been send to canada from VW.Please find out for me,where I can find the information on the rebate. Sincerly Roland Berlinghof
The VW Jetta TDI is available for the credit here in the United States. The Touareg has not been certified (yet, but perhaps soon). In any event, these are US tax credits. Consult with the Canada Revenue web site to see if there have any comparable credits for alternative fuel cars.
Will the tax credit be applicable to 2010 Mercedes GL350? Are there any other credits available for this model?
The 2009 GL 320 is certified for the credit. No word yet on any 2010 models.
