The IRS will be hosting a second "open house" on June 5, 2010, in an effort to assist taxpayers needing extra help in filing tax returns, resolving federal tax problems, or setting up payment arrangements. Both individuals and small business owners can avail themselves of help from the IRS, according to the agency's announcement of the open house event:
"Two hundred IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the country will open on Saturday, June 5th, to provide help to small business owners and individual taxpayers dealing with notices and payments, return preparation and a variety of other tax issues. Each office will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. local time."
Of particular interest, IRS agents will be able to assist individuals who need to file tax years for 2009 and earlier years. Individuals can even schedule an appointment online at a handful of IRS field offices. Individual taxpayers should keep in mind that the IRS offers free tax preparation for people with total income of not more than $49,000.

Glad to see that the IRS is having these open houses. Making the offices open to the public goes a long way to helping the public in these difficult economic times.
