About.com Guide to Tax Planning since 2004

William Perez has been working as a tax professional for over seven years. As an enrolled agent, he routinely represents the interests of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service in audit and collection matters. He manages a tax practice that focuses on the needs of individuals and small businesses.

Experience:

William currently is employed in a private tax practice where he helps people from all walks of life resolve their tax problems, minimize their taxes, and plan for their financial future with the least tax consequences. Prior to starting his own practice, William worked for the IRS and a small business accounting firm.

Education:

William earned a master's degree from San Francisco State University and endured an intensive training program in taxation at the Internal Revenue Service, and stays abreast of tax law changes through continuing education.

From William Perez:

I approach being a tax accountant a bit differently than others. For me, it's not just about the numbers. It's also about understanding a person's financial life and making sense of our ever-changing tax code. I strive to read the tax laws critically and analytically, and to apply those laws to individual circumstances with sympathetic impartiality.

While I make every effort to insure that the tax information on About.com is accurate, it is your responsibility to make sure that you follow the tax laws. This is important because I need to let you know about one provision found in a regulation called Treasury Circular 230. Under this law, you cannot use any of the information on this Web site for the purpose of avoiding penalties that may be imposed by the IRS. That's why in every article I write, I'll refer you to the appropriate materials from the IRS so that you can dig deeper into particular tax issues.
