F.A.Q.
- Q. Where can I find the best tax software to prepare my 2005 taxes?
- A. I thoroughly test all the leading tax software programs, and summarize my findings on the Best Tax Software page.
- Q. Where can I find more information about...?
- A. Probably the best resource for digging deeper into taxes and tax planning is the book, JK Lasser's Your Income Tax. This is my top pick among all the leading tax books. You can also try searching the IRS website, or using my own custom-built tax search engine to search through federal and state tax resources.
- Q. Where can I find IRS tax forms and instructions?
- A. I link to the most commonly requested IRS tax forms and publications. If your desired form is not on this list, try browing the IRS Forms and Publications page.
- Q. Where can I find tax forms and publications for my state?
- A. You can find links to State and Local Tax Sites for every state tax agency in America.
- Q. Where can I find tax software to help me prepare back taxes?
- A. The three major tax preparation programs can help you just fine. Which one you choose is up to you. You should use the same software for all the years you need to file, because you will be able to import data from an earlier year into the following year's software package. TaxCut has programs going back to 1995, TaxAct back to 1998, and TurboTax back to 2000. You should also carefully read my guide to filing back taxes for tips on protecting your refunds and minimizing penalties.
- Q. Can you recommend a good tax preparer?
- A. Use these seven easy steps on How To Find an Accountant.
- Q. I have this problem. You see last year I claimed...........?
- A. I would be happy to help point you in the right direction. The best way to contact me is through the Ask a Tax Question page or by posting your question in the Tax Message Boards.
- Q. I love your articles, can I reprint them?
- A. I am delighted to hear you like my articles enough to reprint them. I will almost always grant permission to reprint any of my content, but you should ask me first. Email me about my reprint fee.
