The District of Columbia has approved a tax amnesty program that begins August 2, 2010 and ends September 30, 2010. Participants in the amnesty program will have their penalties and fees on overdue taxes waived and will not be subject to any criminal charges.
Eligibility for D.C. Tax Amnesty
Both individuals and businesses with unpaid taxes with an original due date prior to December 31, 2009 are eligible for this amnesty program. The only taxes that are not eligible are real estate (property) taxes and the ball park fee.
How to Apply
In order to receive amnesty you have to file an application with the D.C. Office of Tax and Finance and pay all of your overdue taxes plus interest (only penalties and fees are waived). The city has created a special website for the amnesty program where you can get more information and find lists of frequently asked questions in several different languages.
