Florida has announced that taxpayers who are unable to pay their tax bills because of the Gulf oil spill may qualify for certain tax relief programs.

Tax Relief Options

The relief options that may be available for taxpayers who owe back taxes in Florida and were affected by the Gulf oil spill are:

  • Payment or installment plans
  • Waiver of late filing penalties

Eligibility for these relief options will be decided by the Florida Department of Revenue on a case by case basis.  If you have been impacted by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico you can visit or call a Florida Department of Revenue service center to discuss your options.

Florida Tax Amnesty

If you have been affected by the oil spill and owe back taxes, you may be eligible to participate in Florida’s Tax Amnesty Program from July 1, 2010 to September 30, 2010. Those who qualify and submit an Amnesty Agreement can have all of their penalties and up to 50% of their interest waived.  And if you can't pay all of your tax debt by September 30th, you may be able to make payments.
