Kentucky has passed a limited tax amnesty program that the state is calling "expedited protest resolution." The purpose of this program is to reduce the amount of tax bills that are currently under protest.
Who is Eligible for Kentucky Amnesty?
This program is different from past Kentucky amnesty programs. It is only open to taxpayers with a tax assessment that, as of January 19, 2010, the taxpayer has properly protested. The protest must still be active in that it has not yet been subject to a final ruling letter or a collections action.
Pay Now and Avoid Interest and Penalties
Under this new law, taxpayers who pay their tax assessment by July 30, 2010, will not have to pay interest and penalties. All you have to do is pay 100% of the tax due, not including penalties and interest, by 5:00 PM on July 30, 2010.
