Tax Planning Strategies
Useful Tax Tips for Year-Round Planning

About.com Rating 4.5

By William Perez, About.com

The editors at CCH have produced a handy guide to essential tax planning strategies for individuals, families, and self-employed persons. These strategies make for excellent year-round tax planning, and can help pinpoint opportunities for significant tax savings.

Pros:

The staff at CCH have produced a useful guide to perennial tax strategies. Unlike other books on the topic, the CCH book provides a wealth of resources for multi-year tax planning. Included in the book is a 10-Year Tax Forecast covering CCH's predictions for tax rates through the year 2011. CCH is a leading publisher of tax information and software for accountants, and is best known for their Master Tax Guide reference books.

Cons:

The tax laws are constantly changing, and this is a threat to every tax book. The editors at CCH have made the book relevant and useful beyond the 2005 tax season by focusing on proven tax strategies and highlighting when certain tax credits are due to expire. Having used this book almost daily for the past several months, the binding has grown weak and several pages are now loose. Also, editors fail to provide step-by-step approach to long-term retirement planning, which one of their top recommendations.

Overall:

"Tax Planning Strategies" from CCH is an excellent, compact guide to proven strategies for reducing your federal income taxes. The book is highly recommended for accountants and for individuals wanting to implement a long-term tax strategy.
