Blindness

By William Perez, About.com

Definition: People who are blind receive a higher standard deduction. To qualify, the person must meet certain criteria and have a statement from a medical professional. The person's eyesight cannot be better than 20/200 in the better eye with glasses or contact lenses, or the field of vision is 20 degrees or less. Do not submit your doctor's statement with the tax return. Instead, keep it with your tax records.
